Polaris Challenge 13-14 June

Take a look at this event http://www.polarischallenge.com/ and see if you fancy joining me to make up a team of 2. It's basically endurance mountain biking orienteering?! This event is in the Peak District and would mean camping out Friday and Saturday nights. If we get lots of interest we could enter a number of teams - there are various age categories. Kevan & Eleanor have won their category in these events before and have already entered. They always seem to have a great time and have been badgering me to have a go for years.

The difference between this "summer event" and the others is that you don't have to carry your camping gear around with you, which is the main reason I'm prepared to give it a go.

Post a comment here if you might be interested in joining me or forming more Weaver Valley teams.

Delamere 17 Jan

A bright but chilly morning saw 8 of us set off from the station cafe after tea and coffee. Up a winding track over Pale Heights to Primrosehill Wood where we hit the trails proper. The overnight rain had made it very slippy, especially over the tree roots which abound ( Steve leads Andy and James right), but there were no serious fallers and plenty of challenges to hone the concentration.
Some of us did an extra loop down the Sandstone Trail from Summertrees, then back up the Tirley Garth bridleway to retrace and lunch at the station cafe.
Andy and I found Delamere Forest much muddier when we did a loop of it after lunch, but still very ridable. Lots of people out on new looking bikes which might have been Christmas presents. Everyone's welcome on these Delamere rides; just turn up or get in touch. Come and have a few rides with us before you join the club.

11 Jan Club run to Llandegla

Thought I'd start a thread by creating a post, but it turns out it is on the bogblog not the Sunday runs blog - not as computer literate as I thought.

Anyway, thanks to Alan and Ewart for getting us to the mountainbike centre at Llandegla through Holt, Rossett and Coedpoeth. Then back via a shorter route through Kinnerton and Chester. Just about made it back before dark with very tired legs! Great training for Llanberis though.

Summertrees 3 Jan

A great turnout of 13 riders and a couple of new faces despite the freezing weather.
This is the rambling route which Matthew recorded with his GPS http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Summertrees-and-Delamere. We headed off to Moulton then over the Weaver to the Whitegate way and some lanes and tracks to Little Budworth.
More tracks through the woods near Oulton Park then to Cotebrook. Up the lanes to the fast bridlepath decent at Tirley Garth then the gruelling climb of the Sandstone trail to Summertrees and lunch.

4 of us continued on through Primrose wood for some more challenging singletrack including Urchin's Kithen (a first for me - led by Matthew) and then on to Delamere Forest (the view above is from Pale Heights - one I prepared earlier) and back to Northwich along the Whitegate way for Alan and I; the lanes for Matthew and Derek to Weaverham.

Hope you all enjoyed it and discovered some new tracks. See you 17 Jan at Delamere.
